The origin of the city of Guimarães is established around the 10th century, although its history dates back to the Copper Age. In this century, the Countess Mumadona Dias, widow of Hermenegildo Mendes, ordered to build a monastery; then, the first population core, which gives rise to this city, appeared.

You can also visit other building of equal importance, such as the city walls, the castle of Guimarães or the Church of Nuestra Señora de la Oliveira. The ancient part of the city was classified as a World Heritage Site by Unesco.
